Lulu Noire’s Black Butterfly Tales®

I’m a Different Butterfly is available at Amazon.

We’re all about social interaction and kids. Lulu Noire’s Black Butterfly Tales® is a new, thought-inspired children’s book series featuring topics that support a healthy development of social skills and positive interaction in children 4 to 8 years old. I’m a Different Butterfly – the first book in this series – focuses on embracing differences / self-acceptance; and along with our discussion sheet (free here) is a great conversation starter for you and a child.

The character-building teaching tales from this children’s book series are created to supplement social and emotional learning (SEL) efforts. Social and emotional learning (SEL), as defined by the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL), is “the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.”

According to Botvin Lifeskills® Training, an evidence-based prevention program for schools families, and communities, SEL has the following benefits:

Short-term benefits:

  • More positive social behaviors and attitudes
  • More empathetic
  • Ability to manage stress and depression
  • Improved classroom behavior
  • Better attitudes about themselves, others, and school
  • Fewer conduct problems

Long-term benefits:

  • Higher academic achievement
  • Decreased high school dropout rate
  • Fewer arrests
  • Fewer mental health disorders
